Coyote Alert

Coyotes have been spotted in this neighborhood as well as nearby communities. Unfortunately we believe they are responsible for many missing cats.

PLEASE CALL FWC IF YOU SEE A COYOTE OR SUSPECT A COYOTE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR A MISSING PET!

The FWC needs this information so they can triangulate the coyotes' paths and set traps. Coyotes are much more difficult to trap than bears, and more dangerous! Please call the below FWC contact with as much information as possible regarding day, time, location... etc.

Bear Activity Seen

Recently there has been a lot of bear activity in the area. This is common for this time of year. We would however like to pass along some contact information and tips

If you encounter an aggressive bear and you feel you are in immediate danger:

  • Call 911
  • If you encounter an aggressive bear and you feel you are not in immediate danger:
    • Call Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) at 888-404-FWCC (3922) or you can use the online reporting form found on the FWC website
    • You can also participate in the FWCC Black Bear sighting Registry. Click here

Tips to curb bad bear behavior:

  • Secure household garbage in a shed, garage or a wildlife-resistant container (like a bear-resistant container or caddy).
  • Put household garbage out on morning of pickup rather than the night before.
  • Secure commercial garbage in bear-resistant dumpsters.
  • Protect gardens, apiaries, compost and livestock with electric fencing.
  • Feed pets indoors or bring in dishes after feeding.
  • Clean grills and store them in a locked, secure place.
  • Remove wildlife feeders or make them bear-resistant.
  • Pick ripe fruit from trees and remove fallen fruit from the ground - bears love fruit!
  • Screened enclosures ARE NOT SECURE and WILL NOT keep bears out.
